Recycling Center Operational Changes
On Tuesday, 5/4/21, The Peterborough Recycling Center will again begin accepting pre-sorted #1 and #2 plastics.

To avoid the facility being inundated with more materials than can safely and effectively be processed with limited staff and storage space, we are asking that residents adhere to the following schedule of disposal for #1 and #2 plastics during the first three weeks of resumption of these items:

  • Week 1: 5/4/21 through 5/8/21 – residents with license plates ending in even numbers may recycle pre-sorted, pre-rinsed #1 and #2 plastics.
  • Week 2: 5/11/21 through 5/15/21– residents with license plates ending in odd numbers may recycle pre-sorted, pre-rinsed #1 and #2 plastics.
  • Week 3: 5/18/21 through 5/22/21 – residents with license plates ending in a letter or symbol may recycle pre-sorted, pre-rinsed #1 and #2 plastics.
  • Week 4: 5/25/21 and beyond: all residents may recycle #1 and #2 pre-sorted, pre-rinsed plastics.

This schedule does not apply to the collection of items previously resumed at the Recycling Center.  Residents can continue to bring these items as well as all others listed on the Town’s website. For a complete list of items currently being accepted, please visit the Town’s website.

There will be a limit of 2 bags or barrels of recyclable plastics per visit while the above schedule is in effect.  Only #1 and #2 plastics will be received, and they must be pre-sorted, rinsed, and with caps removed to be received at the facility.

We anticipate this schedule to greatly aid Town staff as we continue to safely resume recycling operations the facility; and would like to thank the public for their patience and support.  We expect that this process will allow our staff to safety and effectively manage the potential for a high volume of recyclables that have been stored by many since the start of the pandemic.

The public is encouraged to reach out to the Department of Public Works with any questions, comments, or concerns by calling or emailing Scott Bradford, Recycling Manager, at 924-8095 or sbradford@peterboroughnh.gov, or Seth MacLean, DPW Director, at 924-8000 ex.102 or seth@peterboroughnh.gov.
