COMMUNITY AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Broadband Expansion Project Update
With the challenges of working from home, remote schooling and tele-health, the importance of reliable Internet service has become a top priority for Peterborough and towns across the region. February 19th was Peterborough’s deadline for proposals to expand broadband coverage to all addresses in town.  Two proposals were received.  Town staff and the Select Board will be reviewing these proposals and conducting meetings with providers to discuss the details. The Select Board will also have a public discussion during their March 16th meeting.  If you would like to add your voice to the process, please send an email to community@peterboroughnh.gov prior to March 12th, 2021.

 ASSESSING
Tax Abatement Application Deadline is Fast Approaching!
Abatement applications are due to the Assessing Office by March 1st. Those who feel their real estate assessment is unfairly high may apply for an abatement, or reduction, of their assessment. Under State law, municipalities may abate taxes “for good cause shown." (RSA 76:16) “Good cause,” is generally established by showing an error in the assessed value, a disproportionate assessment, or other grounds.
Generally, once an abatement application has been submitted, a Town employee will reach out to schedule an appointment for a town appraiser or other qualified assessing professional to visit the property.  The appraiser will inspect the property to confirm the details as stated in the abatement application. A report is then provided to the Assessor, who ultimately determines if property was indeed incorrectly valued. If the application is approved, the owner will receive a refund of overages paid in taxes, with interest, and the assessed value will be corrected. If denied, the taxpayer may appeal to The Board of Tax and Land Appeals or to Superior Court.

LIBRARY
Tech Tuesday Series Continues
The Peterborough Town Library continues the Tech Tuesday series with a focus on iCloud. Have you wanted to back up your photos/documents/files on your Mac/iPhone? Online storage allows you to do this automatically, which is why Apple created iCloud. Learn more about how iCloud can help you on March 2nd at 1:00 PM. Please email Mary at mhubbard@peterboroughnh.gov for the Zoom link!

RECREATION
Help Wanted!
If you are looking for a summer job, we are now accepting applications for lifeguards, bathhouse and maintenance staff.  If you are interested, please complete an application and send it to lbetz@peterboroughNH.gov.

New Trail to Explore
While the Seccombe Trail still needs some more work done, the new trail is mapped and marked thanks to Joel, Peter, Roxanne and Kate. Nice snowshoe hiking right now! The red trail, off the blue loop, will led you to the Seccombe Cemetery. There is a steep entrance and exit (about 160 feet of elevation change), but once you have achieved the climb to the elevation of the cemetery, the terrain is relatively level. Check the route out on the PeterboroughRec Facebook page.

Volunteers Needed for Easter Event
If you are interested in sponsoring a station for the Cottontail Easter Drive-Thru Event, please call 306-924-8080 or email John at jkohlmorgen@peterboroughNH.gov.  The event will be held on March 27th, barring severe weather (make-up date is April 3rd). Registration for the free event begins March 15th.

The Weekly Dispatch is published on Tuesdays to both the Town website and Facebook page, and is emailed to those on the Select Board mailing list. If you would like to sign up to receive this in your inbox, visit this link and enter your email where indicated.
