2022 Zoning Proposals

The Planning Board is proposing a handful of minor zoning amendments to be presented at Town Meeting in May 2022. This page is dedicated to informing the public of those proposals. All are welcome to attend the public hearings on these proposals. Information on "Manufactured Housing" - Learn why the Planning Board Supports it (and YOU Should too!)
A key element of the 2022 zoning amendments is making manufactured housing more accessible in Peterborough. Currently, manufactured housing highly restricted in the community. Allowing the opportunity for manufactured housing is a crucial step for bringing affordable housing to Peterborough!
  • Mobile v. Manufactured v. Modular Homes 
  • Key fact: "Mobile home" refers to a type housing made in 1976 and previous. Mobile homes were typically built with no construction standard (wind rating, snow load rating, etc.) After 1976, all manufactured housing became regulated and had to be made to a certain standard to ensure occupant safety and structural resiliency. It's a common misconception to think that today's manufactures homes are anything like the "mobile homes" we used to have! Below are some examples of commonly used manufactured homes:
