Community Task Force on Housing
The 30 member Community Task Force on Housing was established in October 2019 and its focus was to design and carry out a community-based process for gathering input from a majority of residents and stakeholders of Peterborough about their concerns, hopes, needs and wants for short and long term housing policy. It was expected that this input would ultimately be used to inform the process of updating the town’s Master Plan chapter on housing which would then ultimately provide guidance to the town’s Planning Board, as it works to revise the town’s zoning ordinances to meet future needs.
The group met monthly through early 2020 to engage in a process that allowed them to experience a number of methods whereby community input may be gathered. These methods were intended to become part of the design used to engage the larger community in issues around housing. Then the Pandemic hit, exacerbating NH's housing shortage as more and more people relocated from urban centers.
After several online meetings, members felt that the work of the Task Force should be paused until such time as they could meet again in person. Small groups of members continued to work on a variety of housing related issues throughout 2020 and into 2021. It is our hope that we will be able to resume sometime in 2021.
